Everest in administration – A message to customers from our team at EYG
26th April 2024
The news today that another double glazing firm – Everest – has had to call in administrators, will be devastating for their 350 staff members as they face an uncertain future, and worrying for customers left concerned as to where it leaves them with their planned home improvement projects.
Following on from the demise of another large firm, Safestyle, less than a year ago, we know this will impact upon customer confidence across the industry, so we’d thought it important to offer a reassuring word to our own much-valued customers, and those considering home improvements in the near future.
As a family-run business established in 1971, EYG is a financially strong, successful and secure business, with both our domestic and commercial divisions continuing to thrive.
This is due to our long-standing commitment to quality and excellent customer care, led by directors and staff who have worked with our business for decades.
We are debt-free, have an annual turnover in excess of £23m and a 100/100 Experian Credit Rating Score.
As a home owner investing thousands in new windows, doors or conservatories, we understand you need reassurance of strength in the business you choose, and its ability to honour warranties and deal with any issues that can sometimes arise in the future.
Therefore, choosing your window installer is a huge decision and not one to be taken lightly.
It is always sad when businesses struggle and jobs are threatened, and we send our thoughts to those facing uncertainty by the situation at Everest.
Our external industry recognition and accreditations
EYG are members of the industry’s largest trade body, the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), for which we must present our current and past accounts, as well as insurance details, and information regarding our directors, going through rigorous scrutiny before being accepted.
We are also FENSA members - a Government authorised Competent Person Scheme for the replacement of windows, doors, roof windows and roof lights in England and Wales.
FENSA conduct site visits to check for quality and compliance, and the work is registered with the local council and complies with Building Regulations.
Dealing with a company that isn’t FENSA-approved could mean your work is faulty, of a poor standard, and even worse, potentially illegal.
We are also members of Secured By Design – a police-accredited and approved scheme that means an installer has products and materials that meet Secure by Design Standards and ensure your home is up to 75% less likely to be burgled, and show a reduction of 25% in criminal damage.
More important than ever to ‘do your research’
In today’s challenging environment, it is more important than ever to carry out extensive research before committing to making a significant investment in home improvement.
Sadly, we know that some do try and claim to be members of the above bodies, but you can go on any of the above websites and search members to verify if their claims are accurate.
And a word of warning, if a company lies about being members of trade bodies, they may lie about other things, so do be careful and conduct your own checks when parting with large sums of money, for your own protection.
