EYG founder and former Chairman announces his retirement
4th February 2025
We send our warmest well wishes and fondest goodbyes as we bid farewell to the company's founder and former Chairman, Jim Bingham.
Over to Jim now, for his words of thanks: "After 53 years, I have finally decided it is time to step away from the business that I started and have run my entire adult life – in the latter 18 years with Nick’s great help as Managing Director.
"I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the people who have helped me in the business’s long and successful history, in particular Chris George, who joined me after a few months and played a huge role in working in credit control and becoming Joint Managing Director.
"Thank you to all my fellow directors over the decades, all the managers, the sales people, and those working in admin, manufacturing, and those in installation. You’ve made it all possible and made me incredibly proud.
"Creating a company that employed many, many hundreds of people over the years, including fathers and sons, brothers, sisters…and given so many people life time careers, has been one of the proudest achievements of my life.
"I am proof that education is not a barrier to success, having left school with no qualifications and starting a business from my tiny house that to date has had a turnover in excess of £670m.
"EYG is my baby, it is all I have ever known and it is an understatement to say that it has been an incredibly difficult decision to leave.
"I have cherished memories of so many people, many of who have been critical to the success of the company and have been by my side for decades – there are too many to name individually but I am certain you all know who you are, and I thank you.
"There have been highs and lows along the way but we’ve weathered the storm, and learnt and adapted to all of them, and there have been so many successes which we have enjoyed and celebrated.
"My wife Linda has been behind me all the way and been very supportive and I wish to thank her for everything she has done for me, and raising our family while I was working hard, especially in the early years.
"Finally, I wish Nick every success in the continued prosperity of EYG, and I know, having run it alongside me for many years and in recent years steering the ship, that it is in good hands.
"I’ll continue to watch from afar as a proud grandfather of the company."
