EYG steps in with ‘wonderful’ windows and doors installation – at a discounted price - for woman who lost her £3,500 deposit when another firm closed
23rd September 2024
A woman who lost a £3,500 deposit when a window and conservatory company went out of business has thanked EYG for their ‘wonderful’ installation and said she would ‘100% recommend’ the firm to others.
She had placed an order for a full house of new windows and doors with Hull-based Colfax Window Systems Limited in January, and paid a deposit via bank transfer - money she lost when the business ceased trading in April before going into liquidation.
Having realised she was unable to recover any of her losses, she then turned to EYG, and, having heard of her loss, our directors agreed to offer an extra 5% discount, on top of our ongoing sale of up to 55% off windows and doors.
“I’m delighted with EYG, they have been so good and I wish I had gone with them from the start,” said Sue, of Hull.
“I was originally going to use EYG, but a member of the family had previously used Colfax and so I chose them. “
Having placed her order with Colfax and paid her deposit, Sue says she was concerned when installation days kept being delayed, and then she struggled to contact people at the business.
Eventually, her brother visited the premises to find the business had closed.
“I went to Citizens Advice and my bank, but I was unable to get any money back because I’d paid by bank transfer. It was really upsetting,” she said.
‘Thrilled’ with EYG products and service
Sue contacted EYG and our team offered the discounted price, helping her select a red composite front door with two glass panels, and a stable door leading to her back garden.
“I’m really thrilled with the windows and doors from EYG, and they have been brilliant throughout the process, from offering me a discount because they knew I’d lost money, to the lads who installed everything,” she said.
“It took them four days to fit the windows and doors and each day when I came from home I’d look forward to seeing what they had done. Apart from a little bit of dust you wouldn’t have known they’d been here as they were so tidy.
“I’m really pleased with my red composite door as it really stands out, and they were also able to do me a stable UPVC door at the back, which I like as I can open the top to let in some air. I’m also really pleased with my kitchen window, as the openings used to be at the top, but now they are at the bottom so I can reach them easily over the sink. Those little details are so important.
“I’d 100% recommend EYG to others. They have been fantastic.”
John Waugh, domestic sales and marketing director, said: “It was really unfortunate that she lost so much money as a result of the demise of Colfax, and when our sales representative made her situation known to the directors, we took a decision to offer a generous discount on what would have been our usual price.
“We’re delighted that Sue is happy with our products and our installation team.”
How to protect your money on high-value purchases
Customers buying from EYG do so safe in the knowledge that they are buying from one of the largest double-glazing companies in the UK, which has been established more than 50 years and is debt-free, with an annual turnover in excess of £20m.
However, it is always advisable, when making any significant purchase up to £30,000 in England, Scotland and Wales, to use a credit card, as this ensures you’re covered by ‘section 75’ of the Consumer Credit Act.
This protection still applies even if you only partly paid on your credit card, for example the deposit.
If you pay a deposit on your credit card, and the rest by other means (such as debit card or cash), you will still be covered and be able to claim the whole amount back (and not just the deposit) from your credit card company if the goods don’t arrive or are faulty.
