EYG builds its biggest ever garden room for family with four generations all under one roof!

Lynne Broadbent knew exactly what she had in mind when designing her EYG garden room.
As a mother and grandmother caring her four generations of the family in her Scarborough home, she dreamed of a lodge in her garden where she could relax, unwind, and indulge her passion of crafting.
Sharing her home with her elderly mother, who she cares for, her husband, daughter, and teen grand-daughter, she felt it was important to give each generation their own space.
So while her mother has a greenhouse to indulge her love of gardening, and her grand-daughter has the converted garage for entertaining friends, Lynne needed somewhere where she could knit and sew in peace, while also providing a refuge for anyone who needed some quiet time.
The result is the largest garden rooms we have ever built, 23ft x 12ft – complete with two sets of French doors and clad in anthracite grey.
Lynne explained the process to achieving her dream retreat: “I already had the garden room design in mind when approaching EYG to come and see if it was possible to build it at the bottom of my garden.
“After my initial inquiry, they came out within a couple of days, measured up, and my design was acceptable.
“A surveyor came out and checked over the plans and double checked the details, then I just had to wait for the team to come and start the build.”
Garden rooms typically take around two weeks to build, after the footings have been dug and the base constructed.
Lynne said: “First of all the building side arrived with a skip and did the footings, this took two days and no mess was made, as it was all put in the skip and taken away.
“A couple of weeks later the builders Mike and Jonny arrived and took two weeks to build the very large garden room.
'Excellent job'
“It was very interesting watching the process of the build and the builders did an excellent job working in pouring rain, fog, and cold miserable weather, nothing stopped them.
“The builders were extremely experienced and the result was absolutely amazing.”
Lynne opted for installation of the flooring, electrics and heating as well – which is optional – and declared she couldn’t be happier with the final result.
She said: “Once the room was nearly finished the electrical side arrived and fitted the sockets, lighting and heater, everything was very good quality and fitted where I chose to have them.
“The inside and outside of the room look fantastic and I have been able to go with my original plan of having an extra living space with an area for crafting, sewing and hobbies.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the result and would recommend EYG to anyone needing any work. From beginning to end they were very organised and went over and above to build my dream house and I will definitely be using them again.”
Lynne said she was so impressed with the two fitters that she plans to request them for future planned works on replacing her windows.
“I looked after them, with cheese toasties and biscuits and cups of tea! They worked so hard, it was a pleasure having them here,” she added.
EYG’s Sales and Marketing Director John Waugh said: “When space within your home is pushed to its limits, as in this customer’s busy household, a garden room is a fantastic investment.
“It has given Lynne and the family the option to seek some privacy and quiet time, and it has been furnished extremely comfortably. I believe it is the biggest garden room we have built, and it was all designed by Lynne so that she got exactly what she needed. We are delighted to hear how happy she is with the workmanship and quality of the build.”
